Britons take charge early, turn back Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – While the result was delayed by 24 hours after lightning postponed the scheduled Tuesday contest, Albion College would not be denied a victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College.

Jade Barrett, Cait Gaitley and Darcy Muns scored three goals each in the first half as Albion built a 10-goal lead at halftime and scored a 20-4 victory.

After lightning forced the teams to start the game from scratch – Albion was leading 6-2 with eight minutes left in the first half when play was halted – the Britons were determined to control the contest from the start on Wednesday.

Albion accomplished that mission when Muns scored 27 seconds into the contest. Albion lead 10-0 with 8 ½ minutes left in the first half.

Adrian scored twice in 50 seconds to cut the Albion lead to 10-2, but Barrett scored and assisted on Muns goal in the final 22 seconds as the Britons forged a 10-goal lead at halftime.

Barrett finished with a career-high eight points (five goals and three assists). Gaitley and Muns finished with four goals each.

The Albion defense played its typical strong game. The Britons were credited with eight caused turnovers. Barrett and Lauren Wiegand caused three each.

When the shots did come, goalkeeper Jenina Villabroza was there with nine saves.
