Britons Display Passion, Heart

HOLLAND, Mich. – Cait Gaitley scored three times in 4 ½ minutes as Albion College rallied from five goals down to forge a 12-12 tie, but Hope College scored with 41 seconds left to edge the Britons, 13-12, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse action Tuesday night.

"This is the Albion team we have wanted to see all season," Head Coach Shanta Loecker said. "I'm so proud of the effort and energy. It was a tough loss, but the team displayed passion and heart during that comeback."

Alexandra Webb produced the game-winner, her fourth goal of the night, for the Flying Dutch.

The teams traded goals for most of the first half. Dana Kym and Webb tacked on goals in the last 8 ½ minutes as the Flying Dutch gained an 8-5 halftime lead.

Webb scored twice in the first two minutes of the second half to extend the Hope lead to 10-5.

Shannon Kahl got the Albion rally started with an unassisted goal with 13 minutes left. Albion pulled even on Gaitley's goal with three minutes left.

Lauren Wiegand, who produced four goals for Albion, stuffed the box score with five caused turnovers, four draw controls and three ground balls.

Albion (4-9 overall and 3-4 against MIAA rivals) will complete the season with a 7 o'clock game at Olivet College Friday night.
