Women's Lacrosse Slips At Home

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College's margin of error to qualify for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Lacrosse Tournament became a little smaller Friday after it took an 11-10 loss to Saint Mary's College at the Davis Athletic Complex.

The Britons, now 2-2 against MIAA rivals, have home games against Adrian College (April 19) and Trine University (April 22) next week before finishing the season with trips to Hope College (April 25) and Olivet College (April 28).

Cait Gaitley scored two goals and Taylor Nelson and Lauren Wiegand chipped in with a goal and an assist apiece as Albion jumped out to a 5-1 lead midway through the first half.

Saint Mary's answered, scoring five times in a little more than six minutes, as the Bells surged to a 6-5 lead. Kate Kelly produced a goal and two assists to lead the uprising.

The teams traded goals from there. Albion led 10-9 on Nelson's goal with 11:18 to play. Mary Singler scored the final two goals, the last with 5:46 remaining.

Albion had the final possession of the game, but Nelson's shot to forge a tie was blocked as Saint Mary's escaped with the victory.

Gaitley finished the day with three goals, giving her 31 for the season. Wiegand checked in with three goals, an assist, eight ground balls and two draw controls. Nelson and Shannon Kahl added two goals and an assist apiece. Kahl controlled the draw five times and Nelson was credited with causing four turnovers and controlling two draws.

Singler and Molly Stout finished with three goals apiece for Saint Mary's.
