Kahl Nets MIAA Defensive Player of the Week Award

Shannon Kahl dominated the hustle metrics of controlling the draw, collecting ground balls and causing turnovers for Albion College in two games last week, and she was rewarded Monday by being selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse.

A junior from Brighton, Mich., Kahl controlled the draw 11 times, collected eight ground balls and caused four turnovers as Albion started league play with a 16-7 victory over Alma College last Wednesday and a 10-6 loss to Calvin College, the team picked as the favorite to claim the conference championship, on Saturday.

In addition to the metrics, Kahl was credited with holding each of the opponents' leading scorers to just one goal in each contest.

Meanwhile, Kahl chipped in to the Briton offense with two goals and an assist at Alma.

"Shannon has always stood out for her hustle on the field," Head Coach Shanta Loecker said. "Thanks to her leadership, she has an opportunity to stand out on the conference level."

Albion continues MIAA play this week with a Tuesday night contest at Kalamazoo College and a 5 o'clock Friday home game against Saint Mary's College.
