ALBION, Mich. – Cait Gaitley scored six goals and Shannon Kahl and Taylor Nelson produced four goals and an assist apiece as Albion College routed Franklin College, 18-6, in its first game on the new Alumni Field inside the Davis Athletic Complex.

With Kahl, Nelson and Lauren Wiegand working to control the draw, Albion dominated possession in the first half and the Britons held a commanding 14-3 lead after 30 minutes.

"We have put so much work, this week in particular, into trying to build our lacrosse IQ and field sense," Albion Head Coach Shanta Loecker said after her team improved to 1-4. "We feel the biggest takeaway from today is we feel like everybody on the team truly learned something over the course of the game.

"We knew we were young (at the start of the season), but they are invested in learning," Loecker added. "Our confidence continues to build day by day."

Albion could not have scripted a better start to develop confidence as Wiegand scored on a free position shot less than three minutes in. Kahl produced an unassisted goal a minute later and Nelson tacked on a pair of goals as Albion led 4-0 with 23 ½ minutes left in the first half.

In all, Albion controlled the draw 18 times. Wiegand controlled the draw six times, Nelson five times and Kahl twice.

By dominating possession, Albion was credited with 36 shots on goal. Franklin goalkeeper Kayanna Wolter made 18 saves.

Albion will be at home again at 1 o'clock Saturday against North Central (Ill.) College.
