Women's Golf preview

The Albion College women's golf team set a new standard when it finished third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association last fall. That qualified the Britons for the spring rounds to determine the MIAA automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Now it's up to seniors Kiley Flynn and Sadhna Ramanathan, juniors Sydney Cohn and Bailey Downs and sophomores Alexis De La Cruz, Grace Hoffman and Anika Krishnan to continue the tradition.

Hoffman, who prepped at Flint Kearsley High School, is coming off a summer in which she won the Flint Junior Golf Association championship.

Cohn (89.6-stroke average), Krishnan (92.4) and Hoffman (92.8) played in every MIAA round last fall.

The highlight of Albion's fall season is Sept. 17 when it hosts an invitational at the Duck Lake Country Club.

MIAA competition begins Sept. 14 at the Pine River Country Club in Alma, Mich. The Britons will also face their MIAA rivals in Adrian (Sept. 24), Angola, Ind. (Sept. 28), Marshall (Oct. 30) and Battle Creek (Oct. 11-12).

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
