Albion Women's Basketball Team Wins Community Service Award

In October 2013, the Albion College Women’s Basketball Team met to discuss their goals and expectations for the upcoming 2013-2014 basketball season. Most of the ideas that were thrown out that night were along the lines of the many teams before them, but one goal stood out from the rest: they wanted to achieve the most community service hours of any athletics program on campus.

On Sunday April 28th, all their hours of efforts paid off as the team was awarded the Albion College Athletics Community Service Award at the annual Athletics Award Banquet. The team accumulated over 270 hours of community service between August 2013 and April 2014. Albion College Athletes as a whole dedicated over 3,350 hours of community service in the 2013-2014 school year.

The team volunteered for a range of events and causes including the Victory Park clean up day, the Ford Community Test Drive (raising over $400 in just an hour for the Albion community), highway cleanup, and the Albion Public Schools Book Fair. They also dedicated over 115 hours of their time to assist with practices and games for the Special Olympics football, volleyball and basketball teams that visited the Albion College campus.
