ALBION, Mich. – It was a strong second half that pushed Trine over Albion 66-50 in their second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association meeting between the two teams this season.

It was a tale of two halves in tonight's contest.   The first half was dominated by a strong defensive performance by both teams.   Trine took an early lead 17-11 after the first quarter behind a quick 9-2 run for the Thunder to start the game.   A quick timeout by the Britons led them to outscore Trine 9-6 over the remainder of the first quarter.

The Britons' defense didn't let up going into the second quarter.   Albion held Trine to five points for the second quarter and cut the deficit to three at halftime behind eight points and six rebounds from Amanda Larson.   The Britons cut the Thunder's field goal percentage from 45.5% to 16.7% in the second quarter which led to their lowest points allowed (5) in a quarter this season

Trine's powering offense proved to be too much for the Britons in the end.   The Thunder turned around in the second half and outscored the Britons 44-31 to cruise to an MIAA victory.

Amanda Larson (13), Rain Hinton (11), and Elena Welker (11) all scored in double figures for the Britons.   As a team, Albion forced 16 turnovers and converted those to eight points.

Albion will redirect its focus to Saturday as they host Calvin in a critical MIAA matchup.   "Saturday is going to be tough. Calvin played us tough at their place, and we found a way to win, so that will be a huge game for us.   We are both fighting for that 3/4 spot in the postseason tournament," said head coach Doreen Carden. The Britons go into Saturday at 10-4 in the league, which is just ahead of Calvin, who sits fourth with a record of 9-5.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
