Three Britons gain all-MIAA awards

Rain Hinton, Emily Bernas and Evelyn Wischmeyer represent Albion College as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced its all-league selections before the first round tournament games tipoff tonight.

Hinton, a sophomore from Fort Wayne, Ind., who prepped at Woodlan High School, was a first team pick after finishing third in points (17 per game) and rebounds (8.2 per game) and fourth in field goal percentage (53.3) and free throw percentage (72.7) in 16 MIAA games.

She achieved six 20-point games, including a career-high 28 in the Feb. 4 game at Adrian College, and four double-doubles in points and rebounds.

It is Hinton's second career all-MIAA selection. She was a second team pick last season.

Bernas, a junior from Waterford, Mich., who prepped at Kettering High School, is gaining her second career all-MIAA second team award. She finished 10th in the MIAA in scoring at 12.3 while leading the league in free throw percentage (80.8).

Bernas finished strong with 19-point games against Kalamazoo College and Saint Mary's College on the final week of the regular season. She also produced a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds in the Feb. 2 game at Calvin.

Wischmeyer, a junior from Lake Orion, Mich., is gaining her second career all-MIAA award. She was a first team pick last year. She finished 11th in the MIAA in scoring at 11.8 points in 15 games and was sixth on the 3-point shooting list at 43.3 percent.

Wischmeyer achieved three 20-point games, with a high of 23 in the home victory over Adrian College. She fell a rebound shy of a double-double in the road victory over Alma College when she finished with 21 points.

Albion gained the No. 3 seed for the MIAA Tournament with a 10-6 record against conference rivals. The Britons will host Saint Mary's at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a first round game. The winner will advance to a 5:30 p.m. Friday semifinal game against No.2-seed Hope College in Angola, Ind.
