Trine pulls away from Albion in the second half

ALBION, Mich. – Brandi Dawson and Montana Martin produced eight points apiece and fifth-ranked Trine University shot 64 percent in the third quarter as it pulled away for a 70-53 victory over Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action at Kresge Gymnasium.

Rain Hinton scored 11 of her 13 points for Albion in the first half. Her layup gave the Britons a 24-22 lead with less than two minutes left in the second quarter.

Cassidy Williams, who finished with 18 points, scored the final seven points of the half as Trine took a 29-24 halftime lead and it never trailed in the second half.

Sam Carter buried a 3-point basket on Albion's first possession of the third quarter to pull Albion within two, 29-27.

Trine ripped off a 16-3 run to build a 45-30 lead midway through the third quarter. Montana Martin buried a pair from 3-point range and she added a jumper and Brandi Dawson added six points.

Dawson led all players with 22 points, hitting 10-of-18 from the field. She added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Martin finished with 15.

Hinton stuffed the box score with nine rebounds and three steals. Emily Bernas added 13 for Albion.

Maija Gillum gave Albion a boost off the bench, hitting 4-of-8 shots, for nine points.

Albion (16-7 overall, 8-6 MIAA) begins the final week of the regular season with a home game against Kalamazoo College. Seniors Jami Hubbard and Brooke Schutte will be recognized prior to the Wednesday contest which is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
