ALBION, Mich. – Hope College contested everything – from shots to passes – to stall the Albion College offense in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action at Kresge Gymnasium Wednesday night.
Albion shot 33 percent and turned the ball over 22 times in a 65-51 loss to the ninth-ranked Flying Dutch.
Albion got off to a good start, shooting 55 percent (6-of-11) as it trailed 19-15 after the first quarter.
Hope shot just 28 percent (5-of-18) in the second quarter, but it pulled away by outscoring the Britons 14-7. Mallory Gerber produced five points, two steals and an assist off the bench for the Flying Dutch.
Hope led by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter, but Albion ripped off an 8-0 run with 3-point baskets from Jami Hubbard and Emily Bernas and a pair of free throws by Rain Hinton.
Albion could have pulled within single digits, but it shot 2-of-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
Bernas led Albion with 14 points, while Evelyn Wischmeyer added 10 points and eight rebounds and Sam Carter chipped in with eight points and nine assists.
Sydney Muller and Olivia Voskuil scored 14 points each for Hope, while Francesca Buchanan finished a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Albion (14-4 overall, 7-3 MIAA) will play at home again on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. non-league game against Finlandia University.
