Women's Basketball falls to UW-Stout

CHICAGO, Ill. – Amber Fabeck scored five points to ignite a 10-0 run for the University of Wisconsin-Stout in the fourth quarter, and the Blue Devils never trailed from that point as they took a 70-62 victory over Albion College in opening round action in the North Park University Thanksgiving Invitational.

Albion and North Park will meet in the consolation game scheduled for a 1 p.m. Eastern Time tip on Sunday.

Albion trailed 35-23 at halftime, but Sam Carter and Rain Hinton scored six points apiece as the Britons outscored the Blue Devils, 21-14, in the third quarter.

Albion scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter – Emily Bernas scored a layup, Evelyn Wischmeyer knocked down a three-point basket, Hinton hit the second of two shots from the free throw line, and Carter scored a layup – to lead 52-49 with eight minutes left.

Trailing 61-55 with 2 ½ minutes left, Albion had one last run left. Carter hit the second of two shots from the line and she and Hinton scored layups to draw the Britons within one.

UW-Stout held off the Britons as Kyncaide Diedrich produced a layup and a free throw and her teammates Bailey Diersen and Shannan Watkins made their free throws in the final minute.

Carter led all players with a career-high 24 points. She hit 8-of-12 shots from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. Hinton was Albion's other double figure scorer with 10 points.

Diedrich (21), Fabeck (19) and Watkins (10) scored in double figures for UW-Stout.
