Bernas powers Albion past Muskingum

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Emily Bernas scored 12 of her career-high 28 points in the third quarter to lead Albion College to the championship game of the Main View Tip-Off Tournament with a 76-68 victory over Muskingum (Ohio) University.

Playing all 10 minutes in the third quarter, Bernas knocked down 3-of-6 shots from the field and she made all six of her shots from the free throw line.

Albion trailed by as many as 11 in the second quarter. Bernas and Sam Carter scored three-point baskets to cut the Muskingum lead to 32-28, and the Muskies led 36-31 at halftime.

Albion outscored Muskingum, 29-11, in the third quarter. Rain Hinton scored the first five points of the quarter as Albion forged a tie at 36, and Carter completed an old-fashioned three-point play to tie the score at 39.

Albion held Muskingum scoreless for 4 ½ minutes as Bernas scored 11 points to put the Britons on top 58-46.

The Britons led 60-47 after three quarters and they led by as many as 20 in the fourth before settling for the eight-point margin of victory.

Bernas received support from Carter (10 points, five assists, four rebounds, and four steals) and Hinton (10 points and six rebounds).

Albion (2-0 overall) will meet Bethany (W. Va.) College in the championship game on Saturday.
