ALBION, Mich. – Albion College extended its lead in the race for the final berth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball tournament with a 64-35 victory over Adrian College inside Kresge Gymnasium Wednesday night.
The Britons, who enjoy a 7-4 record against league rivals, lead fifth-place Adrian by 2 ½ games with five to play.
Just as important, Albion won its 14th game of the season and are guaranteed of finishing with a winning record.
Albion led 10-9 after the first quarter and 23-18 at halftime. The Britons outscored Adrian 23-7 in the third to gain control of the game.
Evelyn Wischmeyer scored nine of her game-high 17 points in the third quarter. She fell a rebound shy of a double-double.
Rain Hinton added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Britons.
Albion will play its next-to-last home game of the season at 3 o'clock Saturday when it takes on Calvin College.
