Leutz, Hinton shine in women's basketball loss

HOLLAND, Mich. – Brittany Leutz scored a career-high 16 and Rain Hinton added her fourth double-double in her first season at the collegiate level to lead Albion College in a 69-57 loss to Hope College Wednesday night.

Leutz hit a three-point basket to boost Albion to a 45-43 lead early in the third quarter.

Seven players scored as Hope reeled off the next 15 points and never looked back.

Hope's scoring run over the third and fourth quarters spoiled a gritty Albion comeback. The Britons made two baskets – shooting 14 percent – and trailed 22-9 after the first quarter.

Albion outscored Hope, 25-15, in the second quarter to trail 37-34 at halftime.

In addition to her scoring, Leutz finished with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Emily Bernas and Evelyn Wischmeyer each had nine points and eight rebounds for the Britons.

Albion (12-6 overall, 6-4 MIAA) will play its next three games at home, starting with a Saturday non-league date with Great Lakes Christian College. The game will follow a 3 o'clock Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball game between Albion and Olivet College.
