Britons entertain largest home crowd of the season

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College did not disappoint its largest Kresge Gymnasium crowd on Saturday.

Emily Bernas scored a career-high 27, Rain Hinton added her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Haley Nugent chipped in with 12 points off the bench as the Britons turned back Olivet College, 76-49.

Albion trailed briefly – Olivet scored a 3-point basket on its second possession – as it held Olivet to eight points or less in three of the four quarters.

"I thought our defense in the first half was really good," Head Coach Doreen Carden said after the Britons led 39-16 after limiting Olivet to 19 percent shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes.

Bernas connected on 11-of-17 shots from the field.

"Emily was about to burst out at some point and today was a good day for that to happen," Carden said. "She stayed under control."

Evelyn Wischmeyer fell just two points shy of a double-double after grabbing 10 rebounds.

Albion (12-5 overall, 6-3 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) hits the road Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. game against the nationally ranked squad from Hope College.
