Britons Stumble At Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Maddy Valko produced 11 of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter as Rochester College took down Albion College, 76-61, in a non-league women's basketball game.

Oreyana Curry scored a pair of baskets and Erin Nelson and Jami Hubbard added one apiece as Albion led, 8-2, 3 ½ minutes into the game.

Rochester finished the first quarter on a 21-4 run to lead 23-12 after 10 minutes of action.

Mackenzie Fairbanks and Curry scored early in the second quarter as Albion pulled within five at 23-17, but Rochester repelled the rally and pulled away for a 36-22 halftime lead.

Albion mounted another rally in the third quarter as Nelson scored nine points. The Britons trailed by three, 40-37, when Curry knocked down a 3-point basket midway through the quarter.

Allyssa Copley scored six points to lead Rochester on a 12-1 run as the Warriors extended the margin to 16 in the fourth quarter.

Curry finished with 19 points to move her career total at Albion to 989 points. She will try to become the ninth Albion woman to achieve the 1,000-point milestone Saturday when the Britons close out the home portion of the season with a 3 o'clock game against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College.

Nelson fell a rebound shy of her second double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds.
