Curry, Zgoda Lead Scoring Blast

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Guards Oreyana Curry and Emily Zgoda combined for 60 points to lead Albion College to a 97-64 victory over Earlham College on the second day of the Smokey Ballenger Classic.

Zgoda scored 16 in the first half, and she added 20 more in the second half to finish with 36, third-most in Albion women's basketball history. She hit all seven of her attempts from 3-point range.

"It was nice to see Emily go off," Albion Head Coach Doreen Carden said. "She was super confident, feeling like everything was going to go in. It is nice to have a player like Emily who comes off the bench to give us that extra boost."

Curry picked up her sixth 20-point game of the season. She produced 24, two shy of her season high, before taking a seat midway through the third quarter.

Albion started slowly, falling behind 7-2 after missing three of their first four shots and committing a turnover. Paige Ruesch and Zgoda produced the final seven points of the first quarter as Albion led, 21-15, after 10 minutes.

Curry scored the first six points of the second quarter as Albion led by double digits for nearly the rest of the day.

Almost lost in the production of the seniors was the first career double-double for Brittany Leutz, a first-year guard from Jackson. She finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

"The young players know they have to play hard the whole way through," Carden said.

Albion will take an 8-3 record into its Wednesday night Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest at Adrian College. It's the Britons best start since the 2007-08 squad achieved a 9-2 record after 11 games.
