WOOSTER, Ohio – Oreyana Curry and Emily Bernas scored in double figures as Albion College defeated the College of Wooster to remain undefeated on the young season.
Curry scored five points in the first 3 ½ minutes of the game to help Albion build a 12-2 lead. The Britons led 19-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Wooster got as close as six in the second quarter, but Albion was able to repel the run as Emily Zgoda buried a 3-point basket and a pair of free throws.
Curry and Bernas combined for nine points as Albion ripped off an 11-0 run over a 2:40 span of the third quarter.
"We have done a good job of coming out strong in the first five minutes of the second half," Albion Head Coach Doreen Carden said. "We didn't make a lot of shots early today, but our defense kept us in it.
Albion continued to pour it on, outscoring Wooster 28-12 in the fourth quarter.
Curry finished with a season-high 23 points, hitting 8 of 13 shots from the field and on 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Bernas achieved season-highs of 18 points and seven rebounds.
"We are counting on the first-year players, like Emily, to do big things for us," Carden said. "She is a longer guard so that helps us in terms of matchups."
Curry was selected as the most valuable player of the Nan Nichols Classic, and Zgoda, who scored 18 in the Saturday victory over Capital University, joined her on the all-tournament team.
Next up for the 3-0 Britons is a Tuesday night home game against Dominican (Ill.) University.
