Carden Earns Milestone Win

Albion College Coach Doreen Carden picked up her 200th career victory as the Britons rallied in the second half to score a 68-54 victory over Alma College in Wednesday night Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action.

The Britons started of the game playing catch-up, as the Alma jumped out to a 19-10 lead, helped by the fact that Albion went eight minutes without a field goal.

Taylor Nugent buried two 3-pointers in a 46-second span near the end of the first half, helping the Britons to take the lead momentarily, but a 3-point basket by Alma's Mallory Pruett put the Scots ahead by four going into halftime.

The Britons took control of the came in the second half. Brett de Bear gave the Britons a 40-39 lead with a layup with 13 minutes go to in the game.  de Bear was a large part of Albion's success in the second half, where she scored 19 of her game-high 23 points.  Her layup was part of a 25-7 run over 14 minutes propelled that Albion to a 20-point lead with 3 minutes left to play.

Darian Payne finished with a double-double, tallying 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Payne also had three steals in the game – more than any other player.

Katie Thompson had 11 points for the Britons, and Nugent ended up with 8.

Alma had two double-digit scorers as well.  Mary Schlicher had 18 points, and Mallory Pruett finished with 10.
