Albion Hangs With Hope For A Half

HOLLAND, Mich. – Hope College went on an 8-0 run to build a double-digit lead in the final minute of the first half and the momentum carried over to the second half as the Flying Dutch scored a 78-39 victory over the Britons in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action.

Hope led by as many as seven midway through the first half. Emily DeWaters knocked down a 3-point basket as Albion trimmed the deficit to 16-14 with eight minutes to play. The margin remained at two when Brett de Bear sank a pair of free throws to make the score 20-18 at the 3:13 mark.

It was all Hope from that point as Brittany Berry scored a 3-point basket and Megan Kelley scored five points leading up to halftime. The Flying Dutch led 28-20 at halftime and the lead ballooned to 33-20 on Kelly's 3-point basket early in the second half.

de Bear was the only Briton to score in double figures. She was 5 of 9 from the field and 8 of 9 from the line for 18 points.

Courtney Kust and Kelley scored 15 and 14, respectively, for Hope.

Albion will take a break from MIAA action Wednesday when it visits Rochester College.
