Britons Secure Second League Win

ALBION – Emily DeWaters and Brett de Bear led Albion on a 13-4 run over the final six minutes of the first half as the Britons pulled away for a 65-43 victory over Kalamazoo in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action at Kresge Gymnasium.

The lead changed 10 times and the score was tied on three occasions until Albion took control. de Bear and DeWaters produced two baskets apiece as the Britons extended the lead to 25-16 with two minutes left in the first half. Albion went on to hold a 30-20 lead at halftime.

Four Britons scored during a 9-3 run over the first 5 ½ minutes of the second half as the margin ballooned to 16, 39-23. Albion led by as many as 26 in the second half.

de Bear, who was 6 of 10 from the free throw line, led all players with 18 points. Darian Payne produced her first double-double at the collegiate level with 11 points and 12 rebounds. DeWaters and Tanner Johnson finished with 10 points apiece.

Anne Colonius and Emily Lindsay led Kalamazoo with 10 points each.

Albion (4-11 overall, 2-6 MIAA) plays at home at 3 p.m. Saturday against Adrian College.
