Late Rally Falls Short

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College trimmed an 11-point deficit to two in the final minute, but that was as close as the Britons would get in a 59-55 loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Trine University.

Sydney Spragg's layup provided Trine with a 57-46 lead with 3 ½ minutes to play. Trine did not score again until Megan Loveberry tacked on a pair of free throws with 11 second left.

In between, Albion made a furious rally in the final two minutes. Taylor Peruchietti scored four of her season-high 12 points and Brett de Bear added a pair of baskets. The Britons trailed 57-55 on de Bear's layup with 15 seconds to play.

Albion led 26-25 at halftime and de Bear went 2-of-4 from the line on the first two possessions of the second half as it moved to a four-point lead.

Haley Killingbeck and Spragg led Trine on a 14-5 run as the Thunder built a 52-41 lead midway through the second half. Killingbeck knocked down a pair of 3-point baskets as she enjoyed her best day of the season against a league rival with 19 points. Spragg, who contributed 16 points and nine rebounds scored four points and dished out an assist during the decisive rally.

de Bear led all players with 21 points, scoring on 8-of-12 shots from the field.
