Rewa Scores 28 in Opening Night Loss

ADA, Ohio – A 10-minute scoring drought proved to be too much to overcome for the Albion College women's basketball team Tuesday night. Ohio Northern outscored Albion 23-2 over the final 10 ½ minutes of the first half and it hung on to hand Albion a 62-53 setback.

Albion trailed 13-12 on Patty Rewa's (Greenville) basket with 10:32 left in the first half. The Britons misfired on their next 10 shots and turned the ball over eight times. Albion's final points of the first half came on Madeline Winters' (Ann Arbor/Saline) layup with 48 seconds remaining. Albion trailed 35-14 at halftime.

Rewa scored 12 points and Nicole Dennis (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) and Lisa Davignon (Troy/Avondale) knocked down "threes" as Albion trimmed the margin to 43-37 with 11 ½ minutes left in regulation. The Britons had opportunities to pull even closer, but a missed free throw and a turnover stopped the momentum.

Ohio Northern boosted the margin to double figures on Morgan Dumbaugh's 3-point basket and it led by as many as 16 before settling for the nine-point victory.

Rewa finished with a double-double of 28 points and 16 rebounds. She knocked down 10-of-16 shots from the field. Dennis added nine points and five assist.

Dumbaugh paced Ohio Northern with 19 points and eight rebounds.
