Britons Go Even in Friday Doublheader

NAPLES, Fla. – The Albion College softball team went even on Friday, Mar.6, as they fell to Martin Luther College and shutout Grove City College, 9-5 and 4-0, respectively. The Britons (7-3, 0-0) is just one win shy of tying their total wins from the 2019 season.

Albion got on the board in the bottom of the third as junior Skyler Herman singled to bring in a Briton runner. Sophomore Kacy Rossi singled moments later so help slowly construct an Albion lead. With the bases loaded, the Knights walked sophomore Willow Montague resulting in a score by junior Estacia Martinez. Herman would score to create a 4-0 Albion edge as freshman Olivia Palasek reached on a fielder's choice.

Freshman Lilly Patillo homered in the following inning to put the Britons up 5-1 through four. However, Martin Luther would respond with five runs at the top of the fifth and three in the top of the seventh. Unable to recuperate, the Purple and Gold dropped the first game of the morning, 9-5.

Against the Grove City Wolverines, Patillo went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Junior Grace Connolly was 2-for-3 with a pair of runners batted in. Freshman pitcher Ashley Pion topped her season-high in strikeouts from earlier in the week, for a new season-high 12 K's. The Edwardsburg product's performance ultimately led to a resounding 4-0 victory over the Wolverines.

The Britons will continue to enjoy the warm weather as they head back to Fort Meyers, Florida for a doubleheader versus the Elms College Blazers and Anna Maria College Amcats. The games will take place at the CenturyLink Sports Complex at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
