Britons Continue Winning Ways in Florida

NAPLES, Fla. – The Albion College softball team continued its winning ways defeating Grove City and Clark University, 15-12 and 21-3, respectively. For the Britons, their 5-1 start is the program's best start since 2011.

Eight runs in the final two innings propelled the Britons over the Grove City Wolverines. Junior Estacia Martinez went 4-for-5 with two runs and a runner batted in. Junior Grace Connolly wrapped up the first game batting 3-for-4 with two runs and a pair of runners batted in. Junior Lauren Beougher nailed a grand slam bringing in four runners to help the Purple and Gold top the Wolverines.

Then against Clark University, the Britons pumped the Cougars earning 16 runs in the to run away with the win. Freshmen Oliva Palasek and Lilly Patillo both went yard as the Britons bombarded their non-conference foe. Palasek finished her afternoon with a menacing stat line: 4-for-5 from the plate, two runs, and a trio of ribbies to go along with her homer. Patillo wrapped up the game going 2-for-4 with four runners batted in. Beougher added to the scoring effort registering four runs, three runners batted in, and two hits.

The Britons look to carry on with their winning ways as they take on North Central College (Ill.) and SUNY Delhi at the North Collier Sports Complex in Naples, Florida. Doubleheader action is set to begin on Thursday, Mar. 5 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
