Softball Preseason Poll Released

The MIAA coaches' preseason poll was released Thursday for softball. The Britons find themselves voted ninth place and will look to exceed those expectations.

This year's team will have new energy, as they currently list eleven freshmen on their roster. They will join a team that has twelve returning players, and a coaching staff in their fifth season.

During the 2019 softball season, junior Skyler Herman led the Britons in batting average (.351), slugging percentage (.622), doubles (7), and runs (7) during MIAA games. Sophomore Morgan Deckrow and senior Eryn Vandervlucht will return this year after each of them started eight games at pitcher last year. Vandervlucht led Albion in innings pitched (54.1), earned run average (6.51), and complete games (8) against conference opponents.

Albion's first game is scheduled for March 1 when they open their season against Drew University during their trip to Florida. The Britons will begin MIAA play on March 31 with a double-header at home against Kalamazoo College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
