Albion rallies for doubleheader split

ALBION, Mich. – Catcher Lauren Beougher drove a three-run homerun over the left field fence and pitcher Eryn VanderVlucht mixed off speed and fastballs to keep hitters off balance as Albion College defeated Adrian College, 4-2, for its first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball victory of the season.

The victory came after Albion absorbed a 23-0 loss in the first game of the doubleheader.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Albion's rally was ignited when VanderVlucht, Grace Connolly and Rachel Hendershott hit consecutive doubles. Beougher followed with her second homerun of the season.

VanderVlucht (2-15) scattered seven hits and two walks.

Adrian brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth, but VanderVlucht was able to get Infinity Rogers to fly out for the third out.

VanderVlucht retired the Adrian batters in order in the seventh.

Skyler Herman hit a double and Estacia Martinez and Savannah Spring hit singles for Albion in game one.

Albion will complete the season with a Friday doubleheader at Alma College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
