Herman clubs three doubles in softball doubleheader

ALBION, Mich. – Skyler Herman ripped three doubles and drew a walk to power the Albion College offense in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader against Hope College at Dempsey Field.

Game One: Hope 4, Albion 3

Albion had three hits in the game, but it kept the game close as pitcher Morgan Deckrow allowed just eight hits and the defense made plays to support her.

The Britons scored twice in the first inning without recording a hit. Herman walked and scored when the Hope third baseman made a bad throw to first on Kacy Rossi's sacrifice attempt. Rossi scored on Deckrow's groundout.

Hope forged a 2-2 tie with a run in the second and forged a 4-2 lead with runs in the fourth and fifth.

Albion had the tying run at second base in the sixth after Deckrow doubled to left field to send Herman home with a run to make the score 4-3. The rally fizzled on a double play to end the inning.

Game Two: Hope 4, Albion 1

Herman, Lauren Beougher and Rebecca Rodriguez all collected two hits for the Britons.

Rodriguez's single, scoring Beougher, gave Albion a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Hope scored three times in the second and it added an insurance run in the fifth.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
