Bats warm up in Tuesday softball doubleheader

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Albion College hit .387 in its Tuesday doubleheader at Kalamazoo College, however, the Hornets offense responded time after time to send the Britons to 9-5 and 12-8 losses.

Hitting for the Britons on Tuesday:

Game One: Kalamazoo 9, Albion 5

Kalamazoo answered every time Albion scored to hold off the Britons.

Albion took a 2-0 lead on Rodriguez's two-run single in the first inning.

Kalamazoo scored twice in its half of the first and it tacked on three more in the third.

Beougher's double in the fourth drove in a run, but Kalamazoo, boosted by Hayleigh Alamo's two-run homerun, came back to score three in its half of the inning.

Albion had one more rally – it scored two runs on Sbaschnik's single in the fifth – but it could not come all the way back.

Game Two: Kalamazoo 12, Albion 8 (10 innings)

Kalamazoo scored five times in the fifth inning to erase Albion's 7-2 lead. Both teams scored a run in the ninth before Kalamazoo put the game out of reach by scoring four times in the 10th.

Martinez collected four of Albion's 16 hits. Beougher, Maximiuk, VanderVlucht and Sbaschnik all had two hits.

On Deck

Albion will take a break from MIAA action this weekend for home doubleheaders against Thomas More College and North Park University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
