Connolly boosts Britons to game one victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Grace Connolly drove in four runs Thursday – bringing her season total to 12 through 10 games – to power Albion College to an 8-6 victory over Drew University in spring break softball action.

Albion collected six hits in its second game of the day, a 3-1 loss to Kenyon College.

Albion 8, Drew 6

Rachel Hendershott hit a two-run double in the second and Connolly added a two-run single in the third as Albion led 4-0.

Drew had six batters reach base with two out in the fourth as it scored four times to tie the score. The Rangers added another run in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.

Albion responded with four runs in the sixth. The first run scored with Katie Doniere reached base on an error, allowing Rebecca Rodriguez to score. Megan Deckrow drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring home Hendershott and Connolly hit another single driving in Camille Roloff and Savannah Spring.

Connolly and Estacia Martinez finished with two hits each.

Deckrow (3-2) pitched the complete game, allowing 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Kenyon 3, Albion 1

Albion advanced runners to second and third in the fourth and fifth innings, but failed to score.

Kenyon scored all of its runs in the fifth. Bella Albrecht hit a RBI single and two more runs score when Britny Patterson reached on a throwing error.

Albion scored in the seventh. Hendershott hit a leadoff single and Kacy Rossi came on as a pinch runner. Rossi advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on Eryn VanderVlucht's single. Rossi scored when VanderVlucht was caught trying to steal second base.

VanderVlucht collected two of Albion's six hits in the game.

On Deck

Albion is 4-6 on the season. The Britons have Friday morning games against Martin Luther College and Penn State University-Altoona at the North Collier Regional Park in Naples.
