Britons hit the ball hard in Tuesday softball games

NAPLES, Fla. – The Albion College softball team hit the ball hard at the North Collier Regional Park on Tuesday, slugging three homeruns, in games against Clark University and Drew University.

Albion 8, Clark 1

Rebecca Rodriguez clubbed a three-run homer as Albion avenged its Monday loss to Clark. Rodriguez drove in her fourth run with her third hit of the game in the sixth.

Grace Connolly scored three runs, drawing a pair of walks and slugging a double.

Lauren Beougher and Estacia Martinez each scored twice. Beougher walked and hit a single, while Martinez singled and doubled.

Drew 5, Albion 3

Martinez's ground-rule double scored Camille Roloff in the first inning.

Albion pushed the lead to 2-0 in the third on Beougher's homerun.

Albion threatened to extend the lead even further in the third when Connolly walked, Martinez hit a single and Rodrigez walked to load the bases with two out. The clutch hit eluded the Britons, however, on a pop up to second base.

Drew forged a 2-2 tie in the fourth on a two-run shot by Paxtan Perry.

Albion regained the lead on Connolly's homerun in the fifth.

Albion pitcher Eryn VanderVlucht retired the first two Drew batters in the sixth. However, the next five batters reached base and the Rangers went on to score three to take the lead for good.

Albion had the tying run at second base with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but the Britons were unable to hit the ball out of the infield as Drew retired the side.

Beougher and Martinez each had two hits for the Britons.

On Deck

Albion's record now stands at 3-5. The Britons will take Wednesday off from competition. Albion will visit the CuntryLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers for the first time on Thursday for games against Drew (9 a.m.) and Kenyon College (11 a.m.)
