Softball gains split of Wednesday doubleheader

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Center fielder Angela Hoffsis scored two runs, including the winning run in the fifth, as Albion College gained a split of its Wednesday softball doubleheader at Kalamazoo College with a 4-3 victory in game two.

Hoffsis hit three singles in the game. She scored on Grace Connolly's double in the first inning and came across with the winning run when the pitcher made a bad throw to first base on Lauren Beougher's ground ball in the fifth.

Albion struck for three runs in the first. After hitting her double, Connolly advanced to third on Beougher's single. Beougher got caught in a rundown while trying to steal second base, but she stayed active long enough for Connolly to take off from third base and score.

Izzy Kirck provided the offense for Kalamazoo. She scored in the fourth inning and tied the score at 3-3 when she clubbed a two-run double in the fifth.

Eryn VanderVlucht (6-14) allowed four hits and two walks to get credit for the win in the circle.

Hoffsis, Kelsie Vogleman, Connolly, and Kimberly Freitas all collected singles in game one, but Albion lost the game, 8-0, in six innings.

Albion (10-26 overall and 2-12 against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals) will complete the season with a Friday doubleheader at Alma College.
