ALBION, Mich. – Albion College pitchers Eryn VanderVlucht and Brianna Charron deserved a better fate on Friday.
The offense supported VanderVlucht with just two hits as Adrian College defeated Albion, 2-0, in the first game of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader.
Charron helped her cause with a two-run single in game two and she allowed only three earned runs as Adrian completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap.
Game One
VanderVlucht retired the first seven Adrian batters in order.
Taylor Van't Land collected Adrian's first hit, a one-out single in the third inning. She stole second and advanced to third on Destiny Rogers' sacrifice bunt. Jamie Bell drew a two out walk and Van't Land stole home to score the only run the Bulldogs would need.
The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the sixth as Rogers, who led off the inning with an infield single, scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryanna Collins.
Lauren Beougher and VanderVlucht hit singles and Grace Connolly drew a walk for the Britons.
VanderVlucht (4-13) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk. She collected three strikeouts.
Game Two
Charron's first inning single sent Albion to a 2-0 lead.
Albion extended the lead to 4-1 in the fourth when Beougher tripled to the fence in center field. Kelsie Vogleman and Angela Hoffsis scored on the play.
Adrian scored three in the bottom of the fourth to forge a 4-4 tie.
Errors on consecutive plays with two out in the sixth helped opened the door for Adrian to score the winning runs. Rogers' fly ball was dropped in right field, allowing Jame Lightner and Madison Budde to score.
Charron (4-7) allowed seven hits.
