Softball team splits home opening doubleheader

ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College softball program celebrated its home opener by splitting non-league games with Bluffton (Ohio) University at Dempsey Field.

Game 1: Albion 5, Bluffton 4

Lauren Beougher's sacrifice fly in the fourth inning turned out to be the game-winning RBI.

Albion got its first two batters on base in the fourth. Keslie Vogleman dropped a bunt single to drive in Camille Roloff and Beougher followed with a fly ball to right field to push Savannah Spring across the plate as Albion took a 5-2 lead.

Bluffton rallied as Josie McElroy homered in the fifth and scored on Jessie Madzia's groundball in the seventh.

Albion pitcher Brianna Charron was able to strand Madzia at first base as she induced a groundout to end the game.

Charron (3-2) was touched up for two earned runs on seven hits and four walks.

Angela Hoffsis and Rebecca Rodriguez led Albion with two hits each.

Game 2: Bluffton 8, Albion 1

Bluffton broke the game open on McElroy's three-run homerun in the fifth. The Beavers tacked on two more runs in the sixth as Brittany Huff slugged a RBI double and McElroy tagged a RBI single.

Albion scored its run in the sixth. Grace Connolly's single pushed Vogleman across the plate.

Albion went down in order in the first two innings. Roloff was the first baserunner, hitting a single to start the third inning.
