Albion splits Friday softball games

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Albion College scored eight times over the final two innings Friday to pull away for a 10-3 victory over Drew (N.J.) University in spring break softball action at the CenturyLink Sports Complex.

Geneva (Pa.) College handed Albion an 11-6 loss in the first game of the day, leaving the Britons at 6-6 heading into their final day of spring break competition. Albion finishes the trip with Saturday morning games against Crown (Minn.) College and The College at Brockport (N.Y.) at the North Collier Regional Park in Naples.

Center fielder Angela Hoffsis, who started the day with a team-best .516 batting average, continued to swing a hot bat. She went 6-for-9 on the day, drawing a walk and scoring three runs in the game against Drew.

Lauren Beougher, a first-year student-athlete who has split time between catching and playing shortstop on the trip, added six runs batted in to her season total. She slugged two doubles against Drew.

Grace Connolly and Estacia Martinez added three RBI each against Drew.

Eryn VanderVlucht picked up her fourth pitching win of the season. She pitched the complete game against Drew, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and three walks.
