Softball team returns to the diamond

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Albion College rallied to forge a tie in both of its softball games Thursday morning, however, the Britons came away with losses to Kenyon (Ohio) College, 8-5, and Penn State University-Altoona, 9-4.

The losses leave Albion at 5-5 on the year. Albion returns to the CenturyLink Sports Complex tomorrow morning for games against Geneva (Pa.) College and Drew (N.J.) University.

Kenyon 8, Albion 5

Albion held a 3-0 lead after 2 ½ innings.

Grace Connolly was awarded a run batted in when she reached on an error and Rebecca Rodriguez drove in a run on a groundout in the first.

Angela Hoffsis scored for the second time in the game on Lauren Beougher's double in the third.

Kenyon scored three times in its half of the third, but Albion answered with a run in the fourth when Kelsie Vogleman drew a bases loaded walk.

Kenyon tackled on single runs in the fourth and fifth to seize the lead at 5-4.

Albion rallied to tie the score at 5. Beougher's fly ball to left field was misplayed, allowing Hoffsis to score again.

A pair of Albion errors helped Kenyon score three times in its half of the sixth to complete the scoring in the game.

Hoffsis went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs.

Penn State-Altoona 9, Albion 4

Vogleman and Camille Roloff scored in the fifth as Albion forged a tie at 3.

Penn State-Altoona scored six times with two out in the sixth to take the victory.

Albion collected 12 hits in the game, with Beougher leading the way with three singles. Hoffsis, Connolly and Savannah Spring had two each.
