Albion wins Monday spring break softball games

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Albion College defeated New Jersey City University, 11-1 in five innings, and Rivier University, 3-2, in Monday morning spring break action.

The Britons, winners of three in a row, have climbed back to .500 at 3-3 on the season.

Albion broke the game open, scoring five times in the fourth inning and adding for more in the fifth.

Kelsie Vogleman and Grace Connolly doubled to drive in runs and Rebecca Rodriguez added a RBI single in the fourth.

Lauren Beougher completed the scoring for Albion with her first career grand slam (and third homerun of the season) in the fifth.

Savannah Spring went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Beougher, Connolly and Hoffsis all collected two hits.

Brianna Charron was working on a shutout until the fifth inning. She finished a five-hitter with three strikeouts.

Hoffsis collected three more hits and Estacia Martinez added two hits and a walk.

Pitcher Eryn VanderVlucht allowed two hits and two walks while striking out six.

On Deck

Albion returns to North Collier Regional Park in Naples, Fla., for Tuesday morning games against Clark (Mass.) University and Elms (Mass.) College.
