Britons, Hornets Split One-Run Games

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College and Kalamazoo College split a pair of one-run games in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader at Dempsey Field Friday afternoon.

Game One: Albion 2, Kalamazoo 1 (8 innings)

Madison McConnell drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in Madison Kortas with the winning run.

Kortas reached base on an error to lead off the eighth inning. Becca Rizer and Rebecca Rodriguez walked to load the bases after Kara Suwarsky dropped a sacrifice bunt to move Kortas to second base.

Angela Hoffsis' aggressive base running led to Albion's run in the first inning. Hoffsis hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on an error.

Albion maintained the 1-0 lead until the sixth. Erin DuRoss hit a RBI double as Kalamazoo tied the game to send the game to extra innings.

Kortas allowed a run on five hits to finish her first season at the collegiate level with a 4-8 record.

Game Two: Kalamazoo 3, Albion 2

Hoffsis stole home when Rizer walked in the first inning and Savannah Spring drove in a run in the fourth as Albion built a 2-0 lead.

Kalamazoo scored its runs in the sixth. Hayleigh Alamo hit a two-run single and Kayla Dziadzio doubled home a run.

Hoffsis collected three hits and Rodriguez had two for the Britons.
