Albion Softball Goes 6-4 In Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Albion College completed competition in Florida by splitting its Friday games at the CenturyLink Sports Complex.

Albion went 6-4 during spring break to move its record on the year to 6-6.

"We improved from the start of the week, but know what we need to work on," Head Coach Leigh Ann LaFave-Austin said. "We develop team chemistry. We will continue to finesse what we need to in order to be competitive in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association."

The Britons are idle from competition until March 24 when they begin a stretch of four doubleheaders in as many days. Albion starts with road trips to Baldwin-Wallace University and Bluffton University. The Britons will make their debut at the new Dempsey Field inside the Davis Athletic Complex March 26 against North Park University and complete the string of games with a March 27 home date with Defiance College.

Albion 8, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford 2

Albion took advantage of five Panther errors to score six runs (four in the first and two more in the third).

The Britons added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as Ashley Witkowski slugged a double to right-center that sent Angela Hoffsis and Andrea Benson in to score.

Hoffsis finished the game with three singles and she scored twice. Witkowski produced two hits and three runs batted in. Rebecca Rodriguez and Mackenzie Fairbanks also drove in runs for the Britons.

Rodriguez (2-2) threw the complete game for Albion. She allowed 10 hits, but received help from the defense which turned a pair of double plays and committed only one error.

Rivier 7, Albion 6 (8 innings)

Albion threw out a runner at the plate for the second out in the eighth, but Rivier got a walk-off hit to win the game.

Hoffsis collected three more hits, scored twice and drove in two runs. Rebeka Enders produced two hits.
