Albion Softball Splits Thursday Games

NAPLES, Fla. – Albion College boasts a 5-5 record in non-league softball action after gaining a split of its spring break games on Thursday. The Britons let a 7-1 let slip away in a 10-8 loss to New Jersey City University, but Becca Rizer delivered a two-run homerun to boost them to a 5-0 victory over Mount Mary (Wis.) University.

New Jersey City 10, Albion 8

Albion took advantage of three errors to score seven times in the first inning. Madison Kortas singled to drive in two runs. Rebecca Rodriguez and Rebeka Enders also delivered RBI in the frame.

New Jersey City came back with five runs in the third and four in the fifth.

Albion got a run back in the sixth on Enders' RBI single. The Britons had the tying run at bat in the sixth and seventh, but could not get the runner on base.

Savannah Spring collected two of Albion's six hits in the game.

Albion 5, Mount Mary 0

Rodriguez pitched Albion to its first shutout since March 10 of last season. She scattered four hits and had one strikeout.

In addition to Rizer's homerun, Enders slugged a pair of doubles and Spring delivered two hits and two RBI.

On Deck

Albion will play its final games in Florida on Friday when it meets Rivier and the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford at the CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers.
