Softball Team Climbs To .500

NAPLES, Fla. – Albion College defeated Bridgewater State (Mass.) University, 6-2, and Alverno (Wis.) College, 5-2, during Monday spring break action at North Collier Park to push its record to .500 (3-3) for the season.

Albion 6, Bridgewater State 2

Albion collected just three hits, but it took advantage of six walks and four errors by the Bears. Ashley Witkowski was credited with Albion's only RBI. Angela Hoffsis, Kara Suwarsky and Rebecca Rodriguez all hit singles. Madison Kortas (2-1) pitched the complete game, allowing eight hits and a walk.

Albion 5, Alverno 2

Albion took advantage of a pair of Alverno errors to score three times in the second. Rebeka Enders ignited the rally with a two-out single. The next two batters – Hoffsis and Savannah Spring – reached on throwing errors – allowing Enders to score. Madison McConnell and Witkowski slapped RBI singles to left later in the inning.

Hoffsis singled, was sacrificed to second and scored on an error in the fourth, and McConnell tacked on a RBI single (scoring Enders) in the sixth.

Brianna Charron pitched her first complete game and picked up her first victory at the collegiate level. She yielded two runs on six hits and four walks. She struck out four.

Albion visits the CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers for Tuesday games against Dominican (Ill.) University and Kenyon (Ohio) College.
