Albion Softball Splits Sunday Games

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Madison McConnell and Kara Suwarsky collected three hits apiece as the Albion College softball team split its Sunday games.

The Britons started their spring break trip to Florida with a 10-2 victory over Rockford (Ill.) University. In the second game of the day, Swarthmore (Pa.) College scored two runs in four different innings to score an 8-0 victory over Albion.

Albion 10, Rockford 2

Albion had Rockford on its heels, collecting 11 hits and taking advantage of seven Rockford errors. Suwarsky drove in three runs and McConnell collected two RBI. Savannah Spring recorded a pair of singles and came around to score twice. Julia Anderson, Andrea Benson and Rebecca Rodriguez each produced a RBI for the Britons.

Madison Kortas picked up the first victory of her collegiate career. She scattered two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three.

Swarthmore 8, Albion 0

Albion had two runners on base in the second and fourth innings, but failed to score.

Suwarsky and Rodriguez drew back-to-back walks to start the second, but the rally fizzled when the Britons grounded into a double play.

McConnell and Suwarsky produced back-to-back singles with one out in the fourth. They advanced to second and third, but the Britons were unable to produce a hit to score the run.

On Deck

Albion has Monday morning games against Bridgewater State (Mass.) University and Alverno (Wis.) College at the North Collier Regional Park in Naples.
