Saint Mary's Takes Two From Albion

ALBION, Mich. – Monica Brugnoni, Elena Luce and Lauren Oppliger all collected two hits for Albion College in 10-1 and 11-2 losses to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Saint Mary's College.

Game One

Albion forged a 1-1 tie by scoring a run in the first. Oppliger singled on a fly ball to deep center field. Cashmiere Jones sacrificed Oppliger to second base. Oppliger advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Elena Luce lifted a sacrifice fly to center field.

Pitcher Monica Brugnoni set the Saint Mary's batters down in order in the second and she got batters to pop up for the final two outs in the third as Saint Mary's stranded a runner at third.

Saint Mary's erupted for seven runs on nine hits – all singles – in the fourth. The Belles added two more in the seventh.

Cassie Young produced three hits, including a double, and three runs batted in. Caitlyn Migawa had three hits and a RBI.

Game Two

In a copy of game one, Albion tied the game with two runs in the third. Saint Mary's answered by scoring eight times in its half of the third.

Alice Garvin scored from third on a failed pickoff attempt and Luce's single drove in Oppliger.

Kayla Chapman and Jillian Busfield slugged two-run homeruns for Saint Mary's. Chapman finished the game with three RBI.

On Deck

Albion will recognize the three senior members of the team between games of the 1 o'clock Saturday doubleheader against Trine University.
