Britons Return To Competition

OLIVET, Mich. – It took Albion College a game to shake off the rust from a week off from competition.

The Britons did not collect a hit in a 10-0 loss to Olivet College in the first game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. Monica Brugnoni delivered two hits and Kaityn Hotchkin drove in two runs in a 13-4 loss in the nightcap.

Game One

Ashlynn Grubb threw the five-inning no-hitter in game one, facing the minimum 15 batters. Elena Luce drew a one out walk in the second inning, but she was called out for leaving first base early. Erica Wagner walked in the fourth, but she was caught stealing.

Carrie Chamberlain slugged a pair of doubles and drove in three runs for the Comets. Ashlynn Grubb hit a two-run double and Larissa Ludwick hit a two-run homerun as Olivet scored four times in the first inning.

Game Two

Hotchkin hit a RBI single in the first and drew a bases loaded walk in the second. Miranda Coty also drove in a run in the third, hitting into a fielder's choice as Brugnoni scored when the catcher dropped a throw from the shortstop.

Albion took advantage of three errors to score three times in the third and take a 4-3 lead.

Olivet forged a 4-4 tie as Devon Mayse hit a RBI single in the fourth. The Comets took the lead for good in the fourth as Ludwick hit a two-run double and Konnor Geiger added a RBI single. A pair of errors helped Olivet plate five runs in the sixth.
