Seventh Inning Rallies Fall Short

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Miranda Coty and Lauren Oppliger collected three hits apiece as Albion College had one of its better hitting performances of the season in 3-1 and 5-4 losses to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Calvin College.

Game One

Albion had runners on base in every inning except the first, but it was unable to cash in on most of its scoring opportunities.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, Erica Wagner hit a leadoff triple and she scored on Kaitlyn Hotchkin's bunt.

Calvin scored an insurance run in the seventh as Ashley Riemersma hit a one out double and she came around to score on Kaley Frank's double with two out.

Miranda Coty, Julia Anderson and Oppliger hit two out singles as Albion loaded the bases in the seventh. Coty was caught trying to steal home for the final out.

Both teams collected seven hits in the game. Oppliger finished with two hits for the Britons. Riemersma and Rachel Borden pounded out three hits apiece for Calvin.

Albion pitcher Monica Brugnoni walked one and struck out two.

Game Two

Trailing 5-0 in the seventh, Albion produced five of its seven hits as it scored four times. Julia Anderson hit a RBI double and Oppliger added a two-run double. Oppliger later scored on a throwing error as Albion had the tying run on base.

On Deck

Albion has home doubleheaders this weekend. The Britons host MIAA rival Adrian College at 1 o'clock Saturday and a Sunday non-league date with Franklin College.
