Albion Falls In Home Opener

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College scored four times in the first inning of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader against Calvin College Tuesday afternoon, but the Britons managed two hits over the final 10 innings. The Britons lost both games by scores of 14-4 and 13-0.

Four of Albion's first five batters reached base safely. Elena Luce sent a double to the fence in left field. She advanced to second on a sacrifice by Julia Anderson and scored on a wild pitch. Monica Brugnoni drew a walk, Megan LaCavera hit a double to center field and Ashley Butler hit a RBI single through the left side of the infield. Kaitlyn Hotchkin also produced a RBI when she grounded to third base.

Albion had two other base runners in game one. Alice Garvin drew a walk to lead off the second inning and Hotchkin singled in the fourth, but she was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double.

Brugnoni had Albion's hit in game two. Luce also walked twice.

Albion's next MIAA doubleheader is a Saturday date at Adrian College.
