Britons Split One-Run Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Ashley Butler delivered a walk-off single to lift Albion College to a 4-3 victory over Beloit College as the Britons salvaged a split of their Wednesday spring break softball games. Albion took a 3-2 loss to Illinois College earlier in the day.

Kaitlyn Hotchkin started the seventh inning against Beloit by reaching on an error by the Beloit shortstop. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a sacrifice by Alive Garvin. Butler's single to left sent Hotchkin home with the winning run.

The play lifted pitcher Monica Brugnoni to her second win of the spring break trip. She scattered a run on seven hits and four walks over 4.2 innings.

Brugnoni helped her own cause when she delivered a two-run single down the left field line in the fourth as Albion forged a tie at 3-3. Delaney Probst drew a bases-loaded walk in the second to drive in a run.

Hotchkin and Megan LaCavera both went 1-for-3 with a RBI in the loss to Illinois College. The Britons led, 2-0, after 4 ½ innings but Illinois College rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Albion will play its final games in Florida Thursday afternoon. The Britons are scheduled to meet Marietta College at 12:15, followed by a 4:45 game against Carroll.
