Cross Country preview

Albion College has experienced success on the cross country trail, producing All-Americans in each of the last two years.

Now under the direction of coaches Lance Coleman and MariKate Murphy, the Britons will look to run at the front of the pack this fall.

Seniors Adam Ditri and Kiehl Smith and sophomore Aaron Weimer provide the foundation for the men's team.

  • A Novi product, Ditri finished eighth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Cross Country Championship last year to achieve all-MIAA first team status.
  • Smith, who hails from nearby Jonesville, Mich., achieved all-region status for the second time in his career last fall. He finished 29th in the region, completing the 8K course in 25 minutes, 59 seconds.
  • Weimer was an all-MIAA second team runner last season, finishing the championship meet in 14th place.

Jordan Revenaugh, a senior who prepped at Rochester Adams High School, is the leading returning runner for the women's squad. She was Albion's third runner in the MIAA Championship meet (finishing 38th overall) last fall.

Revenaugh's success carried over to the track in the spring where she finished fifth in the 5,000 meters during the MIAA Track & Field Championship.

Coleman said the Britons expect to receive help from the first-year runners on the roster.

"We have a good group of first-year runners coming in. There are three or four that we're real excited about," Coleman said.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
