Albion runners move up in the region

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Albion College entered the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Championship ranked sixth in the region according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Britons did one better, finishing fifth in the Saturday meet at the Blue River Park. Calvin College, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion, placed its five scoring runners among the top 19 runners to finish atop the standings with a total of 56. Otterbein University (95), DePauw University (142), Case Western Reserve University (151) and Albion (175) completed the top five in the team standings.

Andrew Wittland, an all-MIAA first team performer, was Albion's top finisher. He completed the 8K course in 25:47.7, finishing 21st among individuals.

Kiehl Smith finished 29th, achieving a time of 25:59.3.

Trey Cucuro (37th, 26:02.9), Aaron Weimer (42nd, 26:06.9) and Adam Ditri (46th, 26:10.8) completed Albion's top five.
